Prayer Flags date back thousands of years to the India Tibet region where they were used in religious & customary ceremonies. Over the years prayer flags have been used to promote peace, compassion, spirituality & well-being. The flags do not carry prayers to gods, which is a common misconception; rather, it is believed that the prayers are blown by the wind to spread goodwill and blessings into all pervading space – thereby bringing benefit to all
The five colours are arranged from left to right in a specific order: blue, white, red, green, and yellow. The five colours represent the five primary elements – the fundamental building blocks of both our physical bodies and of our environment. Different elements are associated with different colours for specific traditions & purposes. Blue symbolises the sky and space, white symbolises the air and wind, red symbolises fire, green symbolises water, and yellow symbolises earth. According to traditional Tibetan medicine, health and harmony are produced through the balance of these five elements
The prayer flags come attached with a 3m cotton rope that can be strung horizontally inside or outside the house. It is believed that the flags fluttering in the wind carries silent prayers & blessings for everyone in the vicinity as well as for people living far & wide. Faded & frayed prayer flags are considered auspicious because they are a testimony of blessings that have been carried over time
