
“The Buddha said there are two kinds of suffering. One is physical suffering, one is mental suffering. Physical suffering is inevitable because we have a body. But mental suffering is optional. We don’t need to suffer these emotional storms and torture ourselves with all these feelings of guilt and shame and all these things. We can indeed just drop the burden and be free in the moment. It’s very possible. This is what we are practicing for. And again, at a beginning level, just to send ourselves loving kindness and compassion, and make friends, instead of being at war with ourselves and torturing ourselves.”
