Keeping our heart and mind open to experiences of compassion should not depend on being able to do something about another person’s suffering. Feeling compassion is a powerful exercise for the mind, whether or not anything can be done to help. Understanding that compassion is a practice of the mind first and foremost, with the intention to help wherever possible and realistic, is essential to being a practitioner. – Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche
